Sport at VG
VGHS offers a broad range of sporting opportunities at both competitive and social levels. Some of these are: Hockey, Netball, Swimming, Tennis, Squash, Athletics, Cross Country. Girls are also encouraged to enrol in the skills development program where they gain experience coaching various sports.
With several competitive hockey teams, VG is privileged to use the Rhodes University Astro for weekly practices and matches. This is in addition to the two grass fields on the vast VG campus with the newly-renovated netball and tennis courts taking pride of place alongside them.
The 25m swimming pool is located on the Eastern side of the campus and is used for training for competitive swimmers as well as our substantial beginners swimming program where all girls who have not yet learnt are taught to swim.
VG boasts two recently upgraded squash courts as well as facilities for track and field training.
Grahamstown and Rhodes University affords our girls a range of opportunities to get involved in outside sports. These include: Archery, Karate, Horse Riding / Equestrian and Mountain Biking.
